The 3 Gorges Dam - China 600 ft
Hard engineering method-

Hydroelectric dam in the Yangtze river supplies electricity to central China and Shanghai. It was completed in 2008. As well as producing HEP it reduced chances of flooding downstream.

Impacts-
The Dam displaced 1.3 million people and flooded cultural sites for storage space.

14 million homeless

80% of the land is experiencing erosion, causing 40 million tonnes of sediment to accumulate and this sediment stays upstream, and causes river banks become prone to flood. Also Shanghai rests on a sedimentary plain the slit strengthens the bed which Shanghai lies on so this .

Biologically the sediment reduces biodiversity upstream.

Deforestation 3000 acres animal habitats have been disrupted.

Lower water levels in rivers downstream has lead to drought.

Positives-

Replaces coal power stations which is more economically friendly.
